James Isley, Jr. lived in England. Date of emigration not known. Settled in Jersey City, N.J. in 1838.

3. James Isley married Mary Elizabeth (Hattie) Seely

Their children:

  • 1. Mary, b. March 15, 1848, married to William Harris, children: Ora, Belle
  • 2. George Henry Isley, b. April 7, 1850, married Martha Thompson, children: William, Edna.

Hattie Seely Isley died, and James married her sister Alice Seely on July 3, 1855.

Alice was born August 8, 1838 in Hoboken, N.J. She died July 12, 1925.

Shortly after marrying, they moved from N.J. to Galena, Ill. then in 1857 moved to LaMotte, Iowa. She raised George and Mary, and gave birth to seven children.

  • 1. Alice, b. August 8, 1857 d. November 23, 1945. Married Frank Harris, who died October 8, 1945. Their children:
1. Cleo Harris, m. Emma Felderman. Two children.
2. Beulah, m. Harry Rummel. Children: Francis, Alice, Charles.
  • 2. Rosa, b. June 22, 1860. d. March 12, 1945. Married Will Thompson. Their children:
1. Philo, died in childhood
2. Marie Thompson, m. Will Miller. Children: 1.Helen Miller Bryan: (three sons) 2. Lowell Miller: (three sons)
3. Cora Thompson, m. E.J. Braun. no children. Cora died in 1972
  • 3. John, b. November 29, 1862. d. December 16, 1946. Married Jennie Stover.
Their children: 1. Harry, married Ressie. Harry died in 1973. Three daughters.
2. Lottie, m. Elmer Mann. on his death she married Rev. Bearse. no children. d. 1972.
3. Verne, married. no children.
4. Philo, married Marjorie. one daughter.
  • 4. Edward James (E.J.) b. June 1, 1866. d. July 5 1954. Married Rosa L. Hoyt in September 1892. She died Jan. 6, 1915. Their children:
1. Zella, b. October 1, 1893. m. January 6, 1915 to Reuben Anderson, who died April 1, 1932. Their son Iral Anderson married Evelyn. Their children: Pamela, Terry, Sally
2. Trula Madge, b. July 19, 1897. d. January 1, 1900
3. Yula Irene, b. April 6, 1900, m. Hobart Rickert, June 25, 1936. One son: Charles married Carolyn Fresenborn. Children: Robert Alan, Thomas Alan.
4. Carlton Hoyt Isley, b. September 4, 1903. m. Velma Porter June 21, 1926 d. November 1954.

  • 6. Gilbert, b. July 14, 1874, d. 1951, married Annie Thompson, who died in 1920
